Types of Airport Lights

solar led airport runway taxiway lights

Airport lights play a vital role when the aircraft is sailing and landing, so certain places will have certain colors, flashing, and distance requirements. Therefore, during the approach and landing towards a large airport, the pilot of the aircraft will sequentially see the lights emitted by the following different types of airport lights:

①Airport beacon. Installed in the airport, it emits a strong flash of white and green. One for each airport to indicate where the airport is.

②Identify the beacon. Intermittently emit green flashes with the prescribed Morse code. When there are several airports in a region, one is set up for each airport, and different codes are issued to show the difference.

③ Approach lights. Also known as sliding lights. According to the type of runway, the approach lighting system is composed of a dozen to more than one hundred lights to help the pilot align the runway, adjust the aircraft attitude and determine the distance to the runway entrance; sometimes it is also installed on the centerline of the approach lighting system A set of sequential flash lamps composed of pulsed xenon lamps.

④Slope lights. That is the visual approach light gradient indicator system or the precision approach course indicator. It is composed of multiple lamps that emit red and white light beams in the vertical direction with well-defined beams, helping the pilot to check and correct the entrance slope of the aircraft.

⑤ Runway entrance lights. When the runway entrance is at the end of the runway, the runway entrance lights should be located on a straight line perpendicular to the runway centerline outside the runway end and as close to the runway end as possible, and the distance should not be greater than 3 m; when the runway entrance is moved inward, the runway entrance lights should be Set on a straight line perpendicular to the centerline of the runway at the inwardly shifted entrance. The runway entrance lights emit green light and form a horizontal line to mark the runway entrance.

⑥ Runway centerline lights. Installed on the centerline of the runway at 15 or 30m intervals, emitting white light (red near the end of the runway), marking the centerline of the runway.

⑦Ground with light. Installed symmetrically in the 900m long runway pavement at the landing end of the runway, there are a total of 180, emitting white light, marking the land that can be landed.

⑧ Runway sidelights. Installed on both sides of the runway, with an interval of 50-60m, emitting white light, marking the boundary on both sides of the runway.

⑨ Runway end lights. There are many, installed at the end of the runway, across the runway, emitting red light, marking the end of the runway.

⑩ Taxiway centerline lights. Installed on the centerline of the taxiway, with an interval of 15m, 17.5m, or 30m, emits green light to mark the centerline of the taxiway; if it is changed to red or yellow light, it can form a stop bar or an observation bar.

⑪ Taxiway sidelights. Installed on both sides of the taxiway, with a spacing of less than 60m, emits blue light, marking the boundary on both sides of the taxiway.
